Issaquah Tour

Welcome to the world of Issaquah!!!
I invite you to join me for a tour of my town.

Issaquah is a unique city offering unlimited opportunities for housing, business and recreation. Situated at the base of the Cascade Mountains, it is within 30 minutes of driving time to Seattle, and 45 minutes to quality skiing facilities. Because of this proximity, Issaquah is one of the most desirable and fastest growing areas of the region. It is home to several high tech companies and in close proximity to Boeing and Microsoft as well as many others.

No high rise building will ever hide the city¿s beauty. The Council for Historic Downtown Issaquah, Main Street Issaquah, and the Greater Issaquah Chamber of Commerce work together to maintain the city¿s character and charm and to preserve its history, while encouraging growth and development in the business community.

Home to several million salmon, our Salmon Hatchery is one of the focal points of our community. Volunteers or "docents" staff the facility offering educational information as well as main-taining a large salmon population. For a detailed description of the resources that the hatchery provides or a look at the progress of the remodeling, check out Friends of the Issaquah Hatchery (FISH)

Salmon are important to the Great Northwest, but especially to Issaquah. We pay homage to the fish the first weekend of October at our Annual Salmon Days Festival. During this two day event, over 200,000 people enjoy arts and crafts, food, and entertainment making it one of the largest festivals in the state. Salmon Days is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, but it is a community event bringing together over 500 volunteers. 2008 will mark the 39th year of this event. This year's theme, What a Wonderful Whirl, will be marked with special posters, pins and T-shirts. The group known as the Salmbassadors works for several months on the Issaquah float. We take the float throughout the Northwest during the summer.

Trails crisscross the surrounding mountains giving one the opportunity to experience the beauty and tranquility of nature first hand. Lake Samammish opens the door to water recreation, Snoqualimie and Alpental offer first class skiing and snowboarding.

For more sedate entertainment, Issaquah has over 40 restaurants ranging from fast food to elegant dining.

Gilman Village offers a unique shopping experience. A collection of original homestead homes were first moved to the site in 1972 - and now are full of boutiques and restaurants. Strolling down the wooden walkways is an enjoyable pastime for visitor and resident alike.

The new Issaquah Theater has been heralded as one of the best in the area. The live performances of famous Broadway shows as well as original works play to capacity audiences.

No tour of Issaquah would be complete without a visit to Boehm¿s Chocolate Factory. Started in the 1950¿s by the Austrian Julius Boehm, the store stands as a link to the past. The chocolates are still hand dipped and are considered of exceptional quality. Tours of the factory and the chalet are given daily.

And for the young at heart, the Cougar Mountain Zoo is home to its namesake, an incredible cougar, and a host of birds and small animals. Boehm's Pool offers aquatic opportunities for any age.
